how do i fund a frame, and is my payment secure?
we're using paypal for this scheme. paypal is used by over 180 million people worldwide and has established itself as a secure and reliable way of making payments online.
it also means that you can use any major credit or debit card, you can pay in any of several currencies, and you'll know that your payment has been made and received in an instant, because you'll get a confirmation email straightaway.
and it means that nobody here at fundaframe will ever know or handle any of your payment details - they're kept secure by the people at paypal.

what happens if you don't raise the whole budget for a film?
fundaframe helps filmmakers raise some or all of their budget, depending on the size of the project and what, if any, other sources of finance they have.
the reality is that virtually all independent films are made on a shoestring, compared to mainstream films, and that producers and directors get by on gifts and favours and people giving much or indeed all of their time and energy for free. by funding one or several frames in their production, you are helping them realise their project, and it's in the nature of these projects that every penny will be appreciated and carefully turned over before it gets spent!

how do i know the film i'm funding is really being made?
that's easy:
1) projects on fundaframe are launched and financed very openly: every step of the way is documented on this website, as a famefunder you automatically get put onto the mailing list of the project you're funding (which you can unsubscribe from if you want to, by the way), so you'll receive regular updates, and as the project is being made you'll find pictures, stills and blog entries about it keeping you informed of what's going on.
2) as soon as the film is made you'll be able to see evidence of it. trailers and clips will appear on this site, and as soon as possible (normally after it has been on the festival circuit and/or general release and once it has been cleared for online distribution) the whole film will be made available on this site, and depending on how many frames you fund, you may get your own free download or even be sent a copy of the DVD or a Blu-Ray disc.
3) we've done it before: the first ever frame-by-frame funded film was THE STUDY OF BUNKERS & MOUNDS IN A TEMPERATE CLIMATE (RELATIVELYSPEAKING) by sebastian michael which was 'highly commended' in the TCM classic shorts competition and made the official selection of the 60th international film festival locarno.
and if you're thinking of putting a larger amount of money towards a project and want some additional reassurances, or meet the filmmakers face-to-face, no problem. use the

who will be accountable for how this money is spent?
fundaframe is responsible for collecting the money on the filmmakers' behalf and they in turn are bound by the terms & conditions of fundaframe.org. responsibility for the actual spending of the money then lies with the filmmakers themselves.
back
can i deduct this from my tax?
we're not a charity and your contribution will not qualify as a charitable donation or as gift aid. but if you are in a position to support a project with a more substantial portion of the budget, and therefore become an associate producer, you may be able to take advantage of tax legislation governing film production in your country. if you'd like to know more, please use the contact page to get in touch.
back
when will i get my frame(s)?
that depends on the production schedule for each project. for details on this, check the project's information pages. as a rule of thumb you can expect your frames anything from about six to twelve months after you've funded them. if that sounds like a long time to you, please bear in mind that once all the money is raised, the film still has to be shot and edited. this takes time. but you'll get regular progress updates, so you'll know exactly what your money is doing at any given time.
back
what happens if the film doesn't get made?
projects on fundaframe commit themselves to you, the framefunder, to making their film within two years of launching it on this website. so if, after two years, the film you are funding has not been made, you will be given a full refund.
back
if i don't like the film when it's finished, do i get my money back?
no, that would be insane.
but you can find out a fair bit about the project you are supporting and about the filmmakers on their website. just click on the tell me about the film first link or choose the film in the projects tab and you'll find a wealth of information and background about the project and the filmmakers too.
back
what can i do with my frame(s)?
you can use your frame for personal purposes, such as on your website and of course you can have it framed and hang it on the wall or put it on the mantelpiece. you can also print it out and make a lovely greeting card for a friend or your mum, it's entirely up to you.
what you can't do with your frame is exploit it commercially: you won't own the copyright in your frame, so you wouldn't be allowed to sell it on to an advertising agency or print fifty thousand posters and sell them on your website, just for example. if you're unsure that what you want to do with your frame is possible, please use the contact page to get in touch.
back
can i read the screenplay of the filmbefore i fund a frame?
that's up to the filmmakers. for our current project, THE HOUR OF LIVING, absolutely, you'll find it here!
back
who's making the film and who's going to be in it?
details of the creative team, as well as the cast and crew of any project can be found on their project page. sometimes this information materialises bit by bit over time, as a project takes shape.
back
if i fund a frame, do i have to have my name in the credits?
not at all. if you like the idea of funding a frame (or any number of them), but want to do so anonymously, just leave the relevant field blank and nobody will ever know about your munificence.
back
i've funded a frame but my name is not on the credits page - why?
the credits page is updated regularly, but not automatically. it may take a few hours or in some cases a day or two before your name appears on the credits page; just come back in a little while.
back
i'd like to give a frame to someone as a present, can i do this?
of course you can. just make sure you enter the credit as a dedication, enter their email address in the special instructions box on the paypal form, and if you get any of the additional benefits like a DVD or a party invite then enter their name and address instead of yours.
back
is there anything else i should know?
we can't think of anything else right now, but if you can, just drop us a line and we'll tell you.
